Ibarra, July 25, 2024

Motivated by the recent Solemnity of Corpus Christi and as part of the preparatory activities for IEC 2024, the Diocese of Ibarra held the Pre-Eucharistic Congress at the beginning of July. The event brought together a broad representation of the local Catholic community, including youth ministry, the Diocesan Educational Network, catechists, priests, religious, and laypeople.

Together with Monsignor René Coba, Bishop of Ibarra, the participants engaged in a profound journey of prayer, formation, dialogue, and celebration, with the Holy Eucharist as the central focus. The days were marked by a fervent religious atmosphere and a renewed commitment to the faith.

Eucharist and Fraternity at the Heart of Reflection

The formation sessions were distinguished by the depth and clarity of the topics discussed, including: “The Eucharist and Sunday,” which explored the close relationship between the Eucharistic celebration and the Lord’s Day as fundamental elements for Christian life.

Another topic was “Fraternity,” reflecting on the Eucharist as a source and sacrament of fraternal charity that drives the creation of a more just and supportive society.

The theme “The Eucharist as a Memorial of Jesus’ Sacrifice” was also addressed, delving into the sacrificial meaning of the Eucharist, where the gift of salvation offered by Christ on the cross is renewed.

“The Eucharist as Communion” was another highlighted topic, emphasizing the importance of Eucharistic communion as a personal encounter with Jesus Christ, the source of life, grace, and strength for the Christian.

The reflection on “Conscious, Active, and Fruitful Participation in the Eucharist” stressed the need for full and committed participation in the Eucharistic celebration.

The Pre-Eucharistic Congress concluded with a renewed sense of unity and enthusiasm among the participants, who committed to further deepening their faith and bringing the light of Christ to their communities. This gathering was noted as an important step towards IEC 2024, with hopes that its fruits will multiply in the coming months.
