Fraternity Restored Through Reconciliation

“Called to Reconciliation” is the theme of the presentation by Fr. Damian Howard, SJ, from the University of Oxford, England, at the Theological Symposium “Fraternity to Heal the World.” The Jesuit priest’s talk is scheduled for Thursday, September 5, starting at 11:30 AM, as part of a session that will reflect on fraternity and the Eucharist as pillars for healing the world’s wounds.

Fr. Damian Howard is an academic at the University of Oxford, England, who has deeply studied Christian-Muslim relations. His presentation at the Theological Symposium will offer insights into achieving reconciliation in a fragmented world wounded by the growing violence in interpersonal relationships.

As noted in section 42 of the Base Document of the 53rd International Eucharistic Congress, “We are facing an observation and a search: the world is wounded, and it is urgent to find paths of fraternity and not be overcome by the violence that degrades the human person and all of creation.” This is the task proposed for reflection at the Theological Symposium, which will take place from September 4 to 7, 2024.

During the Theological Symposium, Fr. Howard will also share part of his extensive experience as Provincial of the Jesuits in Great Britain and his dedication to studying the complex field of societies in conflict “where fratricide occurs.”

Fr. Damian Howard, SJ, has recently been appointed as Senior Chaplain at the Catholic Chaplaincy of the University of Oxford, with the responsibility of providing spiritual and pastoral support to the university community.
