“Approximately 1,500 boys and girls will receive their First Communion.”
The inaugural Mass of the 53rd International Eucharistic Congress, on September 8, will be unforgettable for around 1,500 boys and girls who will receive the sacrament of First Communion. The Eucharist will begin at 10:00 AM at the Metropolitan Convention Center of Quito (CCMQ).
According to Monsignor Alfredo José Espinoza Mateus, SDB, Archbishop of Quito and Primate of Ecuador, the “International Eucharistic Congress is the greatest ecclesial event in the world because it is centered on the Eucharist, and we will be in the eyes of the world.” He said this during a meeting with the organizing team on July 30.
The children from various parishes and educational institutions of the Archdiocese of Quito, IEC 2024, will attend accompanied by their parents and catechists; they will wear white, and those who wish may also wear their educational institution’s uniform.
Logistical and security details are progressing as it is expected to have at least 10,000 people present.
On both Sunday, September 8, and Sunday, September 15, 2024, there will be no morning Masses in any parish in Quito, by decree of the Archdiocese of the capital.
Monsignor Danilo Echeverría, Auxiliary Bishop of Quito and president of the IEC 2024 Liturgical Commission, also participated in the meeting.
